Flooding in Centreville, MI
10/11/2019 (Permalink)
Flooding plays a huge role in storm season. You may not be able to control the weather, but you can always be prepared. The National Weather Service may issue a flood watch or warning. It is important that you know the difference.
- Flood Watch: Tells you to be prepared. The conditions are favorable for the flooding to occur. It may not happen but it is a possibility.
- Flood warning: The weather event is imminent or occurring.
If you experience flooding, never drive or walk in flooded areas. It is impossible to know how deep the water is. People often underestimate the current and can get swept downstream. If contaminated with human or animal waste, flood water can cause infection to open wounds. It is best to avoid exposure whenever possible. You should also be aware of electrical hazards inside or outside the home. Down powerlines may be easy to miss and can cause electrocution. Being aware of these hazards can help you stay safe during a flood.
