5/4/2021 (Permalink)
After a fire or smoke damage occurs in your home, whether it be a small kitchen fire or a large furnace fire, SERVPRO of Cass and St. Joseph Counties will be there quickly to assess the damages after the fire department has put out the fire and begin services. Our recommendations to you of what to do and what not to do until help arrives are:
DO:
- Limit movement in the home to prevent soot particles from being embedded in the upholstery and carpet.
- If the electricity is off, empty your freezer and refrigerator completely and prop open doors to prevent odor.
- Tape double layers of cheesecloth over air registers to stop particles of soot from getting in or out of your HVAC system.
DON’T:
- Attempt to wash any walls or painted surfaces without first consulting with a SERVPRO Franchise Professional.
- Attempt to clean any electrical appliances (TV sets, radios, etc.) that may have been close to fire, heat or water without first consulting an authorized repair service.
- Turn on ceiling fixtures if your ceiling is wet. Wiring may be wet or damaged and could cause electrical shock, and air movement may cause secondary damage.
When a fire occurs in your home, be sure to call SERVPRO of Cass and St. Joseph Counties after the fire has been put out. We’ll help make the damages “Like it never even happened.”
