Mitigation vs. Restoration
11/26/2021 (Permalink)
There’s no worse feeling than coming home from a long day of work and walking into six inches of standing water in your living room. At SERVPRO of Cass and St. Joseph counties, we understand that stress. It’s our job to respond and take care of that stress by showing up quickly and completely removing that water from your home, before it creates more damage. We are a mitigation company and we are also a restoration company. So, what’s the difference?
MITIGATION
Mitigation is the act of minimizing the severity of a situation. When we help our customers via swift mitigation, they avoid water absorbing into the structure of the home potentially warping the floors and causing other damage. The primary purpose of mitigation is to ensure the disaster does not lead to further issues. Mitigation efforts will always come before restoration needs.
RESTORATION
Restoration is the act of returning something to its former condition. If after mitigating there is still damage to the property, this is when restoration begins. Restoration focuses on repairing and restoring any damage that may have been caused to the property. Restoration is significantly less expensive than replacement, which is why it is the preferred method by the majority of insurance companies
